@TCEA 2015: An Invitation to Be More

In a few weeks, the TCEA 2015 State Conference will kick off! I’m thrilled at the opportunity to attend simply as a participant this year. After years of presenting, I must admit that I enjoy attending presentations and finding out what innovative, creative initiatives are out there.

Undoubtedly, many of the presentations will fall into one of these buckets:

  1. Chromebooks and Tips
  2. iPads and apps
  3. Social media and how it can change your life (it can!)
  4. Vendor presentations
Of course, many of the workshops at any conference you attend will have these. Rather than look down my nose at these types of sessions, as I once did, life has enabled me to approach these with a fresh perspective.
As I walk the halls of the Austin Convention Center at TCEA, painfully criss-cross (it gets wider each time) the Exhibit Hall, the Holy Grail won’t be the free stuff, the contest, the social events, the bloggers’ cafe.

Rather it will be simply, Where can I find the inspiration to step out of my comfort zone, to become the leader I need to be, the one that my organization needs me to be?

The answer to that question is one I already know…knowing the answer and putting it into practice are two different things (knowing-doing gap, right?). TCEA, like any conference, is an invitation to allow yourself to be changed. Will I resist or allow it? Will I let more gas in the tank or do I enjoy running on empty?

I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones who will remind me, and invite me to be more…

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

Note to Self: You know, that blinking light is annoying…don’t blink so much…Be steady.
