Woohoo! Moodle 2.0 is finally out…
Well, after about two and a half years of work by hundreds of people, I’m proud to say that we have a Moodle 2.0 ready for you to download.. .The release notes have most of the details, but we’ll be continuing to present news about Moodle 2.0 here on moodle.org (and elsewhere) over the next few months… all of those who have been waiting for a release before starting to test it, here’s your green light!
So, what are your Moodle 2.0 plans? Going to wait a year or get going with it right away? My experience so far with Moodle 2.0 is that it’s worked well with the release candidates. I’ll be upgrading our Moodle installations on a “new” server (an old server that’s been dedicated to Moodle 2 with fresh installs of PHP/MySQL/Apache), but will have to wait until June (!) to upgrade the primary server we’re working on (an Xserve) to the new PHP/MySQL/Apache needed for Moodle 2.0.
Once that happens, then it’s a process of restoring databases, relocating files, and all that fun stuff. So, June, 2011 promises to be a fun month!
In the meantime, I’m thinking it might be fun to revisit all the old Moodle tips and revise them for Moodle 2.0, checking to see how that works, then make a comparison table. All that will happen at MoodleMayhem.org.
What will you be doing to transition your people from Moodle 1.9 to Moodle 2.0? What kind of training will you provide?
